What Does Community Development Do?

The City of Bellevue’s Community Development Department assists the community with long- and short-term planning. The department performs administrative duties, recommends actions to city committees, and assesses needs for housing, services, transportation improvements, and opportunities for revitalization within our city.

Our department also offers a one-stop permit shop for land and building development in Bellevue and the surrounding service areas. We review plans, inspect projects, and investigate code violations. These services ensure that projects are safe and aligned with federal, state, and city codes.

Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve the things our community loves the most about Bellevue, while thoughtfully planning for change and growth. We want to help Bellevue residents to access more services, pursue a great quality of life, and be prosperous, all while preserving enjoyment of property. We strive to put the best town planning practices into practice to protect you and the place you call home. The quality of life of the Bellevue community is our highest priority. We apply land use controls and interpret code to make sure Bellevue’s growth is orderly and planned thoughtfully.
