IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
The City of Bellevue recently failed to provide a corrective action plan or consult with the state regarding significant deficiencies. Even though this was not an emergency, as our customers, you have a right to know what happened and what we did to correct the situation.
A routine inspection conducted in July 2024 by DEQ found 3 Significant Deficiencies. The first was a ventilation issue at Chestnut well. The well casing was not properly vented. The vent did not open downward and did not have a #24 mesh screen. The issue has been resolved. The second issue was that the outside wellhouse at Chestnut Well did not have an adequate backflow prevention device. An appropriate backflow prevention device has been installed. The third is that the Chlorine systems at Chantrelle and Chestnut Wells DO NOT meet the as-built specifications. New pumps that meet the design criteria are being ordered.
We are required to provide a corrective action plan or consult with DEQ prior to taking specific corrective actions in response to significant deficiencies identified during a Sanitary Survey in accordance with IDAPA 58.01.08.302.04 for surface water PWS’s or 58.01.08.302.05 for ground water PWSs. A significant deficiency is defined as any defect in a PWS’s design, operation, maintenance, or administration, as well as any failure or malfunction of any system component, that the Department or its agent determines to cause, or have potential to cause, the introduction of contamination into the water delivered to consumers.
What should I do?
There is nothing you need to do at this time. You may continue to drink the water. If a situation arises where the water is no longer safe to drink, you will be notified within 24 hours.
What is being done?
Our water system is doing the following to provide a corrective action plan or consult with the state on our significant deficiencies. The City of Bellevue is currently acquiring the specified chlorination pumps to be installed at the fore-mentioned wells.
